Statement of Purpose Revisited

Hello, my name is Fernanda Gaudensi Bradaschia and I am 16 years old. I am currently studying in the California State University of Fullerton for three weeks. I came here with the expectation to increase my language skills, and I believe that this period changed me a lot. Besides increasing my capacity of living on my own, this experience increased my academic capacity.
Fullerton helped me to improve my English and to learn some new skills like how to analyze sources and how to write summaries that are really useful to my future academic life. Others important things that I learned here are how to write academic essays and how to pronounce correctly the English.
I believe that all these skills will help me to study in a good university in United States such as Fullerton. I am certain that these 3 weeks were fundamental to improve my academic writing skills and also my pronunciation.

Analyzing Arguments

According to Nancy Kalish from The New York Times, teenagers can learn more and stay more participatory in classes if the classes start later. He argue that many of them stayed up too late the night before, but it is not always because they wanted to. Kalish explain that a research shows that teenagers’ body clocks are set to a schedule that is different from that of younger children or adults. This prevents adolescents from dropping off until around 11 p.m., when they produce the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin, and waking up much before 8 a.m. when their bodies stop producing melatonin. The result is that the first class of the morning is often a waste, with as many as 28 percent of students falling asleep, according to a National Sleep Foundation poll.
Nancy uses goods arguments to persuade about her opinion. Besides of using strong arguments, she use evidences that help to prove that her thesis is true. She tell for example that in 2002, high schools in Jessamine County in Kentucky pushed back the first bell to 8:40 a.m., from 7:30 a.m. Attendance immediately went up, as did scores on standardized tests, which have continued to rise each year. I believe that her argument is valid, therefore, waking up too early is bad for students indeed.

Lesson 5

The effects of violent video games are very discussed and controversial. According to Walker (2001, p. 116), research conducted in the past decade has revealed that young people who regularly play
violent computer games have a tendency to be more aggressive than those who do not. On the other hand, Smith (2003) children's programs are especially violent, as is shown by Tom and Jerry. If young children are expected to realize that it is only a cartoon, teenagers playing computer games can also recognize that it's only a game. In my opinion video games violent video games can influence children to be violent because they are growing up and forming their thinking.

Summarize

Jaslow, Ryan. ( July 9, 2012 ) Babies with dogs less likely to develop colds, ear infections as infants. CBSNews. Retrieved in July 9, from  http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_162-57468598-10391704/babies-with-dogs-less-likely-to-develop-colds-ear-infections-as-infants/

A study finds that new parents do not have to be worried with dogs and cats near to their baby, because keeping the pets in tow may boost a child's health benefits.

During the study, an analysis revealed that babies who had early contact with dogs or cats were significantly healthier. Besides this, a significance percent of children were less likely to experience coughs, ear infections and symptoms such as stuffiness.

Researchers believe that early contact with animal may mature the immune system in infancy.Kids with dogs were also 29 percent less likely to have used antibiotics in the past year than children without pets.

"It might have something to do with dirt brought inside by the dogs, especially since the strongest protective effect was seen with children living in houses where dogs spent a lot of time outside," Bergroth told WebMD.
